Indirect talks focused on achieving a final agreement on a Trump administration initiative to halt hostilities in Gaza have commenced in the mediation venue of the negotiation site.
Palestinian and Egyptian officials have indicated that the meetings are centered around "preparing the environment" for a possible exchange that would result in the liberation of all detained individuals in compensation of a group of incarcerated individuals.
Officials declared it consents to the ceasefire initiative in part, but has omitted reference to several key demands - such as its military demobilization and governance position in Gaza.
The government official said on the weekend that he expected to reveal the liberation of captives "shortly"
Historical Framework
The negotiations, which will see regional and international officials holding shuttle meetings with teams from both the conflicting parties individually, come on the verge of the two-year mark of the Hamas-led attack on Israeli territories on 7 October 2023, in which nearly 1,200 people were fatally wounded and 251 others were captured.
The armed forces initiated operations in Gaza in retaliation. From that point, over 67,000 have been fatally injured by armed interventions in Gaza, as reported by the region's medical administration.
Proposal Framework
The comprehensive proposal, which has been approved by US President Donald Trump and the Netanyahu government, outlines an quick halt to combat and the release of 48 detained individuals, only 20 of whom are believed to be alive, in return for hundreds of detained Gazans.
The plan stipulates that once all involved accept the initiative "humanitarian support will be quickly dispatched into the conflict zone"
It also states that the militant group would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it allows for an eventual Palestinian state.
Latest Updates

It omitted reference to or endorse the detailed initiative but said it "restates its approval to relinquish the management of the Palestinian territory to a governing council of technocrats, founded on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support"
The statement failed to address of one of the crucial requirements of the initiative – that the militant group agree to its weapons surrender and to having no future involvement in the governance of Gaza.
International Response
Many Palestinians portrayed the organization's answer to the peace plan as unexpected, after an extended period of signals that the group was considering denial or at least substantially modify its approval of Trump's peace plan proposal.
Instead, the militant group omitted its traditional "red lines" in the public announcement, a action many interpret as a sign of international influence.
European and Middle Eastern officials have supported the plan. The Palestinian Authority, which governs areas of the Palestinian territories, has described the American initiatives as "sincere and determined"
The Persian nation - which has been one of Hamas's main sponsors for an extended period - has also now signalled its endorsement of the US proposal.
